Re: [tuner23] Mass Air Conversion kit and Tune Up
If you have an EEC-Tuner, you can do the mass air conversion for pretty
cheap. This is better than any aftermarket conversion, since you won't have
to try and fiddle around with some box and hope it works. Plus it's about
the same cost, and you can do more with an EEC Tuner than you can with just
a MAF converter box.
I've got some files and stuff loaded in the files section, and should have a
write-up soon (one of these days......)
As for a tune-up:
Replace the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Don't skimp on the wires,
Motorcraft makes some good ones (8mm) that have a lifetime warranty. I like
Autolite 764s (I think that's the part number) for plugs as they are cheap
(99 cents), but good. Gap them to .032
Check the TPS voltage, it should be around 0.9V (Use a digital voltmeter)
You can also use an analog meter, and increase the throttle slowly (engine
off) to see if there are any dead spots in the TPS.
Check the timing to make sure it is set right. 13 degrees is the stock
setting, but most set it around 10 to help against detonation.
Clean the Idle Speed Controller.
Set the base idle.
Put in a new O2 sensor, they are about $20 from Autozone, etc (for a BOSCH
sensor)
Check ALL vacuum lines, they are prone to cracking and leaking. This can
cause poor idle, lean/rich conditions, etc
When this has been done, then check for codes, and go from there.

Does anyone know of a good Mass Air Conversion kit for the 2.3? Is there
an O2 senser reader?
I have an XR4Ti and I need a tune up badly. What would be the
recommended way of approaching this? Should I start with the codes and
then if the codes go no where, start checking the tolerances of the
sensors?
What sensors are problematic?
