Re: [tuner23] Re: AIr Temp Sensor?
Here is what you do to fix this or any other EEC IV problem.
1) Go to the library and photo copy EVERYTHING in the Mitchell manual on
your ECC IV system. This will include among other things, a bunch of Flow
charts and test procedures. Some of these are labeled by the failure code.
2) get yourself a DVM and some wire to pull the codes. (You don't need a
ripoff "code reader")
3) Follow the test procedures and this will tell where to go. Most of the
tests can be run with not much more than the DVM and some paper clips to
back probe the plug into the ECM. Sometimes you must substitute a "known
good" part to complete a test, since we don't have a "MAP/Baro sensor
tester". If you just start screwing around with the system w/o a clue and
replacing good parts you will most likely just make it worse, and spend a
bunch of money. (Hint: since you have a bunch of sensor codes look for a
missing 5.0v Vref)
4) When checking continuity on sensor wiring (and others) be sure to test
for a voltage drop across the length of the wire, especially on grounds. A
wire that is hanging by one strand will have continuity, but a large voltage
drop when pulling some current. .5 v is 10% of the Vref and is usually the
cutoff, but that depends on the size of the wire and the current it is
carrying. Sensor wires carry very little current however. The drop from the
ECM plug to the battery ground should be <.1 Vdc

Chad is refering to my car, the Frankenstein '93 Mustang with a
serious attitude problem. So far, everything that Chad has hooked-up
is correct. I can't find anything that ain't where it is suppoded to
be. I pulled the KOEO codes this afternoon and got an 81, 82, and
83. These all show sensor problems. Also, the fan runs continuously
(something it didn't do with the OE engnine). A Chevy friend of mine
told me that that was the first sign that the computer was in "dead"
mode. It is either that or I've got some dead sensors is what I'm
thinking. Of course, I REALLY don't want to go out and just buy
everything new, only to find that it was something else.
