The sensors resistance decreases with temperature, so
an unplugged sensor indicates -20F or therabouts. With that input, the EEC won't pull out ignition
timing whatever the charge temperature. Having the
extra advance makes more power. Probably not a good
thing for long races, but the folks using this trick
all seem to be drag racers. Sounds like it works well
for the 10 - 12 seconds they're at WOT.
