[tuner23] Re: AIr Temp Sensor?/SETTING TIMING

Chad, regarding setting your timing with the RW underdrive pulley - You're gonna have to determine where to mark TDC on the pulley by using a piston stop. I usually take an old sp/plug and grind off the porcelain-retaining "crimp" just above the hex and remove the porcelain. Then I select a 1/4" or 5/16" bolt that extends about 3/8" past the end of the plug (may need to be longer, you'll have to experiment) and braze it into the plug shell (or, use a nut to hold it, but you may have to grind the points off the hex so it'll fit in the cyl head). Torque it into the #1 cyl, making sure the piston is NOT at TDC. Next, carefully rotate the engine clockwise BY HAND until the piston hits the stop and make a temporary mark (I use "whiteout") on your pulley opposite the pointer. Do the same in a counter-
clockwise direction and then simply measure and mark your permanent TDC mark exactly half way between the two temporary marks. Sorry this was so long! :)

Okay here is what i have, 93 mustang, Built 87 turbo
coupe engine, 5.7 rods, big valve head, gutted intake,
3"dp, huge front mount spearco, LA3 ecu. blah, blah,
blah. just got it running, runs great, here is the
problem. I went to screw the air temp sensor into the
intake, and the hole is half the size of the sensor. so i dont know what this lower intake came off of. ive got a couple xr lowers, some have the big hole
and some dont have a hole at all. so my question is. what is this intake off of? and how wil the car run
with the sensor not hooked up at all? plug just
hanging. I am eventually going to dril and tap the
upper for the sensor. and another stupid question i
have is how are you supposed to use a timing light to
set the timing with an underdrive crank pulley(racer
Walsh) there are no notches like the stock crank,
just timing marks on the front a full 360. i guess i
could put the stock pulley back on then set the
timing. but i wanted to put the notches on the
underdrive so i dont have to swap it everytime i want
to set the timng. Chad
